I came to Boston in 2001 to do my part in Changing the World, as per my Oberlin degree,
via social work or involvement in public school reform. I got a fun, "temporary" job at the Children's Museum instead*.
I started playing open mics and found myself a splendid, comfy spot on the local folk scene, especially at Club Passim.
Then severe GERD made it harder and harder to sing and speak. I eventually had to stop playing out.
Losing this expressive outlet when I needed it most, I eventually had to face my I'mNotAnArtist Demons and picked
up my visual art where I'd left it, in High School. (You know, when you "make that choice" - are you a singer, artist, dancer, actress, or joining the military? I chose the circus (UWP) which deemed me Singer).
I made stuff every once in a while, but there's just no getting into art classes at Oberlin unless you're a major. Or a liar. I finally got in senior year: Intro to Painting, and Basic Drawing.
Once in Boston, I busied myself with crafting, adopting the moniker BAM!she'scrafty, creating ingenius products, and utterly failing to market them. See INSPIRATION for what happened next!
I enjoy unlearning harmful habits of mind, teaching, robinhooding priviledged information from academia to people who can use it most, goats, hearing tree frogs, and taking pictures. And fire.
I look forward to healing myself back to average human insanity, so I can better serve the world.
